The team
Under their instructor Professor Terry Parker, 10th Dan, Mark and Claire have had the opportunity to travel the world and gain vast experience working with students/instructors from many different countries. Some 18 years ago, they were part of a select British demo team and, together with Sensei Parker and his wife Janet, travelled to South Africa to promote their art through teaching and demonstration. This was a difficult time in South Africa, as most sporting links with the outside world were banned due to apartheid. The tour was a great success and firm friendships were forged between ourselves and the
South African clubs of Sam Tonkin , 7th Dan. To this day, we still share our knowledge and South Africa will, this year (2006) host the 16th United Nations of Ju-jitsu course/competition.
Together, Mark and Claire have successfully competed in many national and international competitions and won many titles. From small audiences of 3 in the African ‘Bush’ to vast audiences of 15,000 at Sport Aid, they have enjoyed each and every one and made many friends along the way.
Retired now from competition, Mark and Claire continue to enjoy success through the many achievements of their students and their son Harry, now 14 years old.
“We have truly enjoyed every minute of our life together in Ju-jitsu and wouldn’t change it for the world. It has enriched our lives in a way that only other sport-minded people would understand. We have two families – our biological one and the one we have with all our Ju-jitsu friends”.
